Theme Albums – Cousins Book – Part 1: Preparation

My husband’s family got together from all over the United States for the week between Christmas and New Year’s. He has two sisters and one sister-in-law. All three of them love to scrapbook, so we asked our husbands to watch the kids for a day so we could have a girls’ scrapbook day. We had been planning this for several months and knew what we wanted to do – a cousins’ book. It had been two years since we were all together. So many changes occur in the life of a child in a two year period therefore we wanted a way to help each of our kids remember their cousins and what each cousin loves and likes.

As most good ideas come from another good idea, my sister-in-law had just completed a 6” x 6” (usually known as 6×6) gift album with a group from Church and so we decided to use a 6×6 format for our book. There are 10 cousins (and none on the way as of right now) so we decided that each cousin would have a two-page layout, featuring a picture, their name and journaling about who they are and what they love.

Since I stay current with most of the scrapbooking products, I was appointed gatherer of products for our book. I fell in love with Making Memories Kids series of patterned paper, so we determined we’d use the patterns of Kate and Ethan because they had the best coordinating color of the four choices. They share the same shade of green, making it multipurpose for a theme album that included boys and girls. We only needed one variety pack of each pattern because we would be cutting each sheet into four 6” squares.

We chose the Making Memories Perfect Fit 6×6 album, Midnight Blue color, because it is versatile and very kid-friendly for all the little hands that will be looking at this book over and over again. I had on hand my new Quickutz pink Squeeze handle, along with the alphabet dies CK Typist, Studio, Ginger, Stiletto, and Olivia. I also had a few Quickutz shapes like a daisy available for us to use. I gathered from my craft room my foam alphabet stamps from Making Memories, a variety of paint for the foam stamps, ribbon, chipboard shapes and alphabets. I was ready for everyone to come for the big day!
