Things to Do on Camp Lejeune

Whether you are new to the area or have lived out here for some time, you may be wondering what to do this weekend without leaving the base. This is actually pretty easy and can be a lot of fun, but it does take a little bit of creativity.

The Base Stables
Long ago we use to have the base stables, which meant on a Saturday you could take your kids up to the stables and give them a pony ride for $5. But they did away with this, however my youngest daughter is so in love with horses we must still visit. We head over to the gas station in family housing and buy an ice cream each and toss a blanket on the ground by the stables and watch the horses and we eat our delicious treats. Oh, you didn’t know about the ice cream? Yep, they’ve had it now for just about a year I believe, but they never look open but chances are if you see it in their and ask they’ll get someone to serve you. Ice cream cones with one scoop are $.75. Back at the stables I wanted to point out that you are no longer able to ride the horses, pet them or feed them.

The Movie Theater
This is my family’s favorite thing to do and it’s cheap. For as little as $10 my whole family can go watch a movie, which is a lot less than it would be out in town. Granted, we still get refreshments and other stuff and it can get a bit crowded, but you get to watch a movie with your family. The base paper will normally have a list of what movie schedule for the week. Keep in mind, the main theater is out or order until March, however Midway Park will have FREE movies until then.

Wanting to watch a movie but not hang out at the theater? There are the base movie rentals and of course the dollar machine at the gas station where you can pop in your credit card and pick out which movie you want. Dollar movies must be brought back the next day before 6 p.m.

Fishing
I don’t know if I’d recommend it right now as it is really cold outside but there is plenty of fishing spots available on base. Don’t forget to get a fishing license though.

The Beach
You already know I love the beach so how could I not recommend this place. Hit the waves, go surfing, stand with your feet in the water or just walk the beach collecting sea shells. Whatever floats your boat and don’t forget on the other side of the beach is miniature golf, which the kids will love. Oh, if you need a place to stay during the summer there is always the lodge or cabana. I’ll give you a review of the cabana after this week.

As you can see there is a lot of fun things you can do on the base, and many I didn’t mention like bowling and walking/jogging/riding the various trails, etc. I hope you can find something to do this weekend, if not there is always the many towns nearby.
