Bam, Pow, Wham! Don’t buy expensive soap scum cleaners when you have three frugal options that will do the job for a lot less.
In the home we used to have, we had a combined shower and tub, and regular normal cleaning of the wall prevented any soap scum build up. In our current home, we have a master bathroom that contains a shower stall with glass shower doors. Unfortunately, the soap scum can build up pretty quickly on those doors, even with regular cleaning. Don’t ask me why the soap scum is doing this. Perhaps it is because of the way the shower is laid out.
Anyway, here are the three frugal ways I have found to remove that soap scum. Pick which one you like the best.
Head over to the laundry detergent aisle of your local supermarket. Pick up some Calgon water softener. Apply a small amount of the Calgon to a wet cloth. Rub it on and then rinse it off. The Calgon is very mild and won’t irritate your skin. It does a great job on soap scum that has been set in for a while.
Shampoo the shower doors while you shampoo our hair! Use cheap shampoo for this application, of course, and rub it on the doors with a washcloth. You can do this while you are in the shower! Rinse the doors, and they will be sparkling clean. Shampoo is just a great cleaner for the walls, too.
Make your own “soft scrub” cleanser, by filling a empty plastic bottle. Put in a bit of a powdered cleanser, such as Comet, Ajax or Bon Ami and add water. Shake the bottle. The nice thing about this home made cleanser (besides the cost) is that it won’t clog up even if you leave it in the shower.
