Tips For Scrapbooking With Your Children

Scrapbooking is loads of fun and can be a great way to express creativity. Can you turn it into a family hobby and actually scrapbook with your children? It is easy to do and possible even with toddlers and preschoolers.

Don’t just let them make their own layouts, ask them to help you with yours.

I can almost hear the gasps of horror go around as you read that last line. I’m serious though. There are many ways a child can help with a layout you are creating, even if it is a masterpiece that you cannot imagine allowing your child to get their hands on.

  • Let them use your crimper, or tear up pieces of paper for a torn look.
  • They can help you get organized by looking for pens, eyelets or other items in certain colors or shapes.
  • Hand them a rubber stamp and let them place the stamp to the paper. Just show them where.
  • Your child should be able to place a sticker, die cut, tag or other element on the page.
  • Allow them to put the adhesive on the back of the different page elements.
  • Ask them questions and include their answers as journaling on a scrapbook page. Let them sign their name to it.
  • Ask them to color in lettering or another item.
  • Allow them to draw pictures or color on card stock and maybe you will get a masterpiece worth using as an embellishment. Let them play with paint, finger paint, sponging, etc. and they can create cool backgrounds you can use.
  • If you have a die cut machine, allow them to turn the handle and spit the die through.
  • Let them make tiny punch outs with your punches.
  • If you love distressing, hand them a piece of sandpaper and have them go to town.
  • If you love the inked look, perhaps you could apply some to a sponge and show them how to blot or rub (depending on what you like).

Spending time with your kids helps strengthen your bond. Spending time with your kids scrapbooking, can get them interested in it for a lifetime.
