Tissue Paper Artwork

For the tissue paper artwork project, you’ll need a picture frame with matting, colored tissue paper, leaves, flowers, or foam stamps with floral designs, and some gold or silver paint.

Choose colored tissue paper that matches the room where the artwork will be displayed. Cut the tissue paper just small than the size of the frame. You will probably need a piece of heavy paper or light cardboard to place behind the tissue paper when framing it.

Once you have cut the tissue paper to the proper size, lay it on newspaper and smooth it. Pour a small amount of the gold or silver paint onto a paper plate. Use gold for warmer colors (red, brown, orange, etc.), and silver with cool colors (white, blue, green).

Dip a leaf, flower, or floral stamp into the paint. Dab any excess off on the other side of the paper plate.

Gently press the leaf, flower, or stamp onto the tissue paper. Cover with your hand and press lightly. Hold in place for a few seconds then gently peel it away in a diagonal fashion.

You can add several prints to each piece, or use only one in image in the center, depending on what you think looks best. Once the paint is dry, place the artwork in a frame and hang it up to enjoy.

This project creates a dramatic look and makes a nice gift. Your kids will love creating this beautiful artwork and will probably want to make a few extras pieces for other rooms in the home.

Variation:

For larger pieces, adhere tissue paper to poster board cut to fit the frame you intend to use. Use a glue stick or spray adhesive. Use all one color of tissue paper or create a collage of different colors, overlapping here and there. Print with leaves or stamps, allow to dry, frame, and hang. You’ll love the look!
