Title Work

Remember my article, “Picking a Title for Your Scrapbook Layout“? If you missed it, check it out for a few ideas on how to get creative with picking your titles for your layouts.

I love a good title. It gives the page so much personality, and direction. However, sometimes, when I pick the title, it is hard to figure out exactly how to get that title to fit on a page. For example, many times, I choose titles that just come to me when I’m looking at my pictures. A while back, I did a layout that is still on of my favorites, but it had a very long title. Part of the fun for me in scrapbooking is getting creative with how I can lay the title out on the page.

The particular title for this layout, was “Blue Skies, Smiling at Me” from the song Blue Skies, by Bing Crosby. The pictures I was scrapbooking for the layout were full of blue skies. So, naturally, I thought of that song. However, it is a pretty long title, so I had to get creative with how I put the title on the page.

First, I had to mix and match alphabet stickers. This part is sometimes hard for people who like a very uniformed look on their layouts. However, once you get the hang of what looks good together, you will most likely become addicted to mixing and matching like me!

Next, I have to get creative with where on the page the title goes. You still want to try and put your title on the page by laying it out from left to write, so it is easier to read, but don’t be afraid to put part of the title in a different spot from the rest of it. In my layout, I made the words Blue Skies the focal point, but included the word smiling in smaller letters as a border to a circle on the page.

Last, do not be afraid to make your own letters if you don’t have the stickers! I do this all the time. Writing the letters on paper, and then cutting small blocks around them can give them the look of alphabet stickers, without spending the money. Here is a picture of my layout:

Putting a title on the page is usually one of the last things I do when creating a layout. But, it can be challenging to fit a longer title on the page when there is not a lot of room left. But, we are always up for a challenge aren’t we? Have fun with your title…that is the most important thing!
