I’ve written extensively about menu options offered by major U.S. carriers. Most of my blogs either spoke to the lack of food options for those in coach or the extravagant dishes offered to those lucky enough to travel in style up in the first-class cabin.
With the chaotic summer travel season in full swing I thought it would be helpful to revisit the topic of “Eats at 35,000 Feet.” In my last blog I began my list detailing who’s serving what and how much it’s going to cost you to munch in mid-flight?
Here’s a continuation of that list:
Frontier
The discount airline offers a selection of snacks for $3 on all flights longer than 545 miles (about 1 – 1.5 hours). On shorter flights, only beverages are available. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary on all flights, while alcoholic drinks are available for $5 each.
JetBlue
JetBlue does not serve full meals on flights, but does serve a variety of complimentary snacks and beverages. Alcoholic drinks are available for $5.
Midwest
Midwest is unique in that it offers “Best Care Cuisine,” an in-flight meal purchasing program that features dishes from a local Milwaukee restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options range from $6 – $11. The carrier allows you to scan a menu before you depart and decide whether you’d be better off packing your own meal. The menu is not available on West Coast departures and is limited on select East Coast departures. The good news is that the airline is still serving complimentary warm chocolate chip cookies on flights departing after 10 a.m. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary, with alcoholic drinks available for $5.
Northwest
The airline offers individual snacks for $3 and snack boxes for $5 in coach class on most domestic flights. On most flights to the West Coast, Hawaii, Alaska, and most of the Caribbean and Mexico, “fresh products” (fruit and cheese, or vegetables with dip) are available for $7. Sandwiches and salads are available for $10 on select flights to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. Northwest also gives you the option of preordering meals online at least 13 hours before your flight so you are guaranteed food during your flight. Complimentary meal service is offered in first class and on all international flights.
