To My Valentine

If you do nothing else this Valentine’s Day with your spouse, how about just jotting a note of things you appreciate about them? The following is mine to my husband:

To My Husband,

Rather than finding a card that best describes my feelings for you, I thought it would be better to dedicate this blog to you instead.

This Valentine’s Day will be the twelfth we’ve spent together. Here are some of the things I really love about you:

  • You don’t make a big deal about anything.
  • You help out around the house.
  • You get on the floor and play with our kids after work.
  • You recognize God as your ultimate authority.
  • You give me a day off usually on Saturdays.
  • You don’t wake me on weekend mornings.
  • You support me by giving me time for group, the gym and writing.
  • On those Sunday mornings when I don’t feel like getting up, you get me out of bed for church.
  • You treat me with respect.
  • You encourage me to be a healthy and happy person.
  • You’re a hard and dedicated worker.
  • You listen to me, and even if you’re really not, you do a good job of pretending to.
  • You are loyal to the core.
  • You take care of me when I’m sick.
  • You teach our children to respect me.

Though I appreciate all these things about you daily, I don’t take the opportunity to tell you how loved you are as frequently as I should. I’m glad we are married; I’m glad we decided to have our children. I’m content with our life and feel a great sense of joy greatly in part because of what you’ve contributed to it.

As future Valentine’s Days come and go, I pray our marriage will grow stronger as will our love for each other. I hope we’ve given our children a good example of what a marriage should be so they will grow up and cherish their wives one day.

I look forward to a great evening tonight. I’m not sure what you have planned, but I’m thankful for your effort to plan an evening and value our time together.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Love always your wife,

Melissa
