Too Cool for School

left

My 7 going on 17-year-old daughter thinks she’s too cool for just about everything these days, including third grade.

Fortunately, I am not letting her attitude affect my tradition of documenting each and every detail associated with the first day of school. Classes resume next week.

Yes, summer is almost officially over in our neck of the woods.

My digital camera is as ready as my daughter’s new backpack and individual labeled No.2 pencils. I am planning to capture the day live as it unfolds in front of my lens. Then, as I have done for the past three years, I will come home and craft a nifty “Back-to-School”-themed scrapbook page that I will look back at in nine months and wonder where the time went.

In addition to the photos and school-themed stickers, stamps and die cuts, I also plan to use the following quotes to spice up my page design:

*A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions.

*A good book is the best of friends.

*Education is the best provision for the journey to old age.

*Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in.

*Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.

*Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.

*As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in schools.

*He that loves reading has everything within his reach.

*If the #2 pencil is so great, why is it still #2?

*Imagination is more important than knowledge.

*The influence of a good teacher can never be erased.

*School is a place where you learn how to be a child.

*The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.

*The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

*Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.
