Travel Buddies

My daughter’s spring break is quickly approaching. The upcoming 10-day vacation has been a hot topic in the school’s lobby where parents gather to pick-up kids at the end of the day. This year, I’ve discovered that many families are buddying-up and heading out on the road together.

Have you ever vacationed with people you were not related to?

It’s not a bad idea, especially if your children and their children get along well. However, if only one of their kids is the same age as yours and the rest are either much older or younger, you trip may prove to be a nail in your coffin.

Still, if you plan properly, vacationing with another family can pay off in spades. The key is finding attractions and activities that will entertain the entire group. Some popular picks include:

Theme Parks: Amusement parks are created to appeal to kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens. What’s more, even adults can have fun visiting different sections of the park. Most major theme parks feature live shows that are sure to please every member of the family. Depending on the park you visit, you could see stunt shows or Broadway-style musicals, or even 4-D adventures, which combine 3-D images and other special effects.

Museums: Major museums can also be excellent choices for multi-family vacations. They offer hands-on learning experiences for children and typically cater to a variety of age levels. If your kids are a bit younger, then head to a children’s museum where youngsters can explore fun and educational exhibits. If your kids are a little older, then consider visiting museums with unique themes, such as Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum or the Guinness Book of World Records Museum.

National Parks: You can’t go wrong vacationing in the great outdoors. Fortunately, our country is home to dozens of incredible national parks that are loaded with amazing activities for kids and adults alike. Whether you are into fishing, biking, swimming, hiking, canoeing, camping or your family simply enjoys spending time around a fire making s’mores, a trip to a national park could be just what you’re looking for.
