Travel Tip: Where To Find Fashionistas

In a previous blog I revealed the name of the leggy blond who recently sashayed away with the title of world’s highest paid model. So, what are your chances of ever getting to meet Gisele Bundchen or her leggy counterparts during a family vacation? If you know where to look the odds are pretty good that you could catwalk your way up to one of the planet’s prettiest women.

According to a new travel book on where to go to find the people of your dreams, models flock to any place that offers low-calorie cuisine, or has some beauty benefit. Model-magnet cities include New York, Paris and Miami. That’s where the new generation of supermodels (including Gemma Ward, Adriana Lima and Darla Baker) has been known to frequent. Once there the gam-a-licious girls reportedly gravitate towards the hippest clubs, restaurants, and stores. According to fashion experts, models these days are trying to reconcile their cocktailing with maintaining a “healthy lifestyle,” (so basically if a hot spot serves pomegranate martinis they’re there).

Seriously, if you want to hang out with (or near) actual models consider checking out New York City’s Runway, which just opened a few months ago. It boasts an illuminated catwalk and rows of comfy banquettes. While there you can try to match some of the faces in the crowd to the pictures on the wall. If nightclubs are not your cup of tea get out your credit cards and head for the shops. Certain boutiques in Manhattan’s West Village are known to be model-magnates. For example, Butik is owned by supermodel Helena Christensen. It stocks everything from clothes to antique treasures and Parisian chocolates. In Paris, models are known to frequent shops in the neighborhood of Le Marais.

When you are in Miami look for the hordes of paparazzi (they are not hard to find), which cluster around model-friendly restaurants (I suppose they have to eat sometime) such as Quattro Gastronomia Italiana and any place that sells sushi. Otherwise, head for the beach, rumor has it sun loving supermodel Elle Macpherson makes an annual trek to Miami’s beaches whenever she is in town.
