Trends in Camera Phones

Industry experts predict that by the end of 2008 more than 300 million people worldwide will own a digital camera phone.

Three hundred million! That is a staggering amount of people who will have a photo device at their fingertips at all hours of the day.

And these days many cellphones that feature built-in cameras also have the ability to record several minutes of video, which can be saved and played back later. (And in most cases uploaded on YouTube for the world to see.)

Interestingly, experts say many shoppers who are in the market for a cellphone are not looking for one that takes pictures. But since many cellphones have cameras included they end up with a device that does double, and in some cases, triple duty.

These days camera phones also come with a host of other features including games and video storage. With these types of phones, instead of showing a number for caller ID, the handheld electronic devices can be programmed to show a picture of the person who’s calling.

What pictures do you have stored in your camera phone?

Experts say these pint-sized cameras come in handy if you want to save shots such as those featuring your children (which come in handy if a child were involved in an accident or suddenly went missing—-you would have a photo on hand to show emergency personnel) or to document damage to your vehicle on the side of the road.

While camera phones are convenient, photo experts don’t recommend giving up your traditional digital camera. Most digital camera phones shoot decent images that can be uploaded and e-mailed, but photos snapped with most standard digital cameras, have a resolution of many more megapixels, thus making the shots clearer and more frameworthy.

As for which company is listed as the top seller of digital camera phones, experts say that title goes to Sprint because of its vast digital network.
