Tropical-Themed Layouts

left

Now that summer is here many avid scrapbook fans are jetting off to spend part of the season in tropical locales. While there they will likely be snapping photos and collecting mementos to feature in vacation scrapbooks.

Of course, not everyone one returns from tropical getaways with a ton of pictures and perfectly preserved souvenirs. If you’re looking to create a memory album to commemorate your summer trip to Hawaii, the Caribbean or another sunny destination, but have very few items to showcase, don’t fret. Fortunately, there are a slew of tropical-themed scrapbook supplies on the market that will help you supplement your personal items.

Check out the Internet or scrapbooking specialty stores for tropical-themed elements, such as albums with palm tree and hula girls on the cover. Other options include tropical flower stickers, pineapple-shaped stamps, laser cut images of dolphins and fire dancers, stencils of beach houses and breaking waves, plus die cuts of surfers, seashells and canoes.

If your personal vacation photos didn’t turn out as well as you hoped, then supplement your layouts with postcards. A stunning postcard can add beauty to a page design in a photo frame or as a separate decorative element. You can also spice up a layout with pressed flowers you may have saved from a lei or embellish your page with sand you collected from the beach or maps of the island you visited.

To add a special touch to a tropical vacation layout, consider featuring popular local words or phrases to add to the island feel. For example, if your summer travels took you to the “Aloha State” for an escape, then feature some well-known Hawaiian words on your pages, such as: “Aloha,” which means hi/goodbye and love; “Mahalo,” which means thank you; “honu,” which means turtle; “anuenue,” which means rainbow and “keiki” which means child.
