Trying To Catch Up

Ever feel like if you could just get one more hour in the day you might be able to get it all done? I feel that way most days and it’s usually the housework that is the biggest time sucker. I try to be organized, I try to have a routine for everything but sometimes that routine gets thrown off.

This past weekend my niece got married. It was a beautiful wedding. It also sucked up most of my weekend. We had the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, and then when I got home I had three different kinds of fudge to make for the reception. The kitchen was a mess. I left it that way, after working all day, the rehearsal and making fudge I was beat.

Saturday dawned bright and beautiful. My sisters and I got to the reception hall early. We spent hours decorating and then setting the food out just so. Finally the bride arrived and all the ladies went to the bride’s room to get ready and watch my niece transform from the little girl she has always be to us, into a bride. Many tears were shed. I took over three hundred pictures.

After the beautiful wedding and reception my sisters and I cleaned up the mess. On Sunday I just wanted to stay in bed all day. I had absolutely no energy. I’m paying for it this week. Over the weekend I’m embarrassed to say, the mess in the kitchen just grew and grew. On Monday I went grocery shopping, I had to clean the kitchen just to put the groceries away and make dinner.

Today I’m trying to catch up on all the other chores, including the laundry. After working all day it’s hard to give cleaning 100% but I’m trying. I was tempted to take a shortcut and throw the laundry in the dryer. Just once won’t kill the environment, right? I’m glad I didn’t. When I pulled those clothes out of the washer, so fresh smelling from the homemade laundry detergent and hung them on the line I was so glad I slowed down enough to savor this one thing.

There is nothing like line drying clothes that takes me home again.
