This website is chock full of information on twins. Juggling twins, schooling twins, feeding twins, riding a bike with twins… unlocking the mystery of behind the twin phenomenon seems to be a hot topic on this site. Yes, I have learned a lot about twins since joining this community, but what I have yet to completely understand is the seemingly odd coincidences that surround the chosen few who live their lives with a sibling who shares the same birthday.
This next story illustrates my point:
Twin sisters Nicole Cramer and Naomi Sale got pregnant around the same time and were scheduled to give birth within a day of each other at the end of January. However, the stork decided to visit Sale first and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week. Cramer who was also nine months pregnant visited Sale and her new nephew in the hospital, but left early because she was having contractions.
Within hours Cramer returned to the same Indiana hospital her twin sister had just given birth in and after 90 minutes of labor she delivered her own baby boy. Confused? Let’s review: Twin sister No.1 gave birth via scheduled C-section to Ethan Alexander at 8:29 a.m. Twin sister No. 2 who was also pregnant goes to visit her, but leaves when her contractions start. A short time later sister No. 2 gives birth to Carter Nathaniel Birchfield in the same Indiana hospital as sister No.1. Oh, and did I mention the sisters share the same obstetrician?
Dr. Thaddeus Weghorst, the twins’ doctor told local news reporters that the births “solidifies the theory on the bond between twins–even their uteri have a bond.”
Ironically, Weghorst’s office didn’t figure out the sisters were twins until they were eight months along. According to the sisters, they usually had their appointments on the same day, but at different times.
Weghorst, told reporters that in the decade he has been practicing he has never seen anything like this. “I’ve delivered two sets of twins in the same day, but never this,” he said.
Cramer and Sale celebrate their 23rd birthdays tomorrow, but say they already have the best presents they could ask for—their new babies.
