Two Easy Ways To Save Money On Food

It has been said before, and it will definitely be said again, saving money on food is one of the best ways to save money. And creating home cooked meals to save money is easy and will put extra cash in your bank account. In fact, by home cooking your meals, mostly from scratch, you can feed a family of five for about $10-12 a day. But even after hearing that, or hearing that by home cooking your meals you’ll save money, over and over again, do you really understand?

Cooking From Scratch

Many people consider cooking from scratch to be extremely time consuming. And although it does require a little extra effort and time, it is not that bad. For instance, cooking from scratch does not mean you have to have a pasta maker, or roll your own dough and cut out noodle strips. It doesn’t even mean you have to own a bread machine and make your own bread. It’s fun though, so I would recommend that you consider it. But it isn’t necessary. I purchase pasta in bulk. I purchase rice in bulk. In fact, I purchase a lot of things in bulk. I use these items to make meals from scratch. I am not telling you to cook foods from scratch, only meals. There is a difference. You can use canned or frozen veggies. You don’t have to use fresh veggies. Same with fruits. Just be sure to purchase these items in bulk or when on sale to get the most of your money.

Visit Several Stores

The best deals can be had at various stores, and if you have an Aldi’s or IGA close to you, I definitely recommend a trip! Our local IGA has an EIGHT pound bag of apples on sale for $3.88. That is twenty cents more than my local large chain grocer, has priced their five pound bag of apples at. Obviously the IGA deal is better. Apples can be used for all sorts of things from desserts, to breakfast or dinner. Scour your sales ads and make a list of the best deals at each store. Use your price book to comparison shop and you will be set. Visit these stores one afternoon and stock up. It should take about 2-3 hours to accomplish, but you’ll bet set for several weeks with perhaps a smaller trip needed only once or twice.

Saving money isn’t that hard if you take the time to try. I absolutely love sharing ways to save money, and if you are looking for more, be sure and check out my articles.
