Are you in a scrapbooking rut? Do all of your layouts look the same? Are you looking for ways to spice up your page designs without having to enroll in a workshop and spend a ton of money buying new tools and embellishments?
Yeah, me too.
Unfortunately, while I am a diehard scrapper at heart, I don’t always have the time or money to kick my scrapbooking skills up a few notches. Consequently, many of my albums feature a lot of the same basic page designs. When motivation strikes I look for inspiration from others, namely the gals at my local scrapbook store.
My particular shop features a large display table at the front of the store, which features a theme book every month. The sample book includes innovative layouts and all of the embellishments used in the book are available in the shop, including the paper, stamps, stickers, die cuts, flocking powder, gel pens and more.
If you don’t live near a scrapbook supply store, you can search for inspiration online. There are dozens of sites that allow you to use free templates and add ons. Better Homes and Gardens, Scrapbooking.com and Creativity Portal are excellent sources for ideas, tips, techniques and downloadable patterns and cutouts, including words you can print and use as titles.
Another site that is worth visiting is dMarie. There’s a wealth of free layouts there, plus you can peruse tips, such as thinking out of the box when it comes to photos. Instead of simply adding square or rectangle-shaped photos to your layouts, consider cutting them into circles, diamonds or triangles to add a new dimension to the page design. I also think that using pinking shears or other scissors with scalloped edges can add a unique touch to ordinary photos.
