Today I’m going to put the spotlight on some of the upcoming programs at various Military Family Resource Centers across Canada. For those that have never taken advantage of the services at your local M.F.R.C. I encourage you to drop by. They have programs and classes for children as well as adults and costs, if any, are always very reasonable.
M.F.R.C. Winnipeg
• The Red Cross Babysitting Course is once again being held for children ages 12 and up. Cost is $15.00 for the course and attendance at all the classes is mandatory in order to graduate. Classes are held May 2 & 9 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. and on May 13 from 9a.m. – 2 p.m.
• A Youth Employment Workshop is available on May 1, 2, 8, & 9. Students will learn interview skills, how to write a resume and where to look for jobs. Cost is $10.00. Check out the newsletter at the Winnipeg M.F.R.C. Website for contact info.
• The popular Active Parenting Now workshop will be coming to the Winnipeg resource center. These classes, for parents of children ages 5-12, teach effective ways to use non-violent discipline techniques, improve communication and teach children responsibility. Cost is $15.00 and classes are held on Wednesdays from April 26- May 31. Check Website for contact info.
M.F.R.C. Comox
• A two night bullying workshop will be held on Wednesday May 17 & 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This workshop will teach you how to recognize the signs of bullying and how to deal with it. This class is free of charge. Check the Website for details.
• Comox has ongoing computer workshops with classes in Web design, digital imaging and more. There is no charge for these workshops. Check out the Website for details.
• A Healthy Relationships workshop is being held on May 1 from 1– 3p.m. This workshop examines the myths of relationships, discusses personal values/beliefs and intimacy. Registration is needed before April 24. Cost is $2. Check out the Website for contact information to register.
