Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of April 15, 2012

computer lab Genealogy is a hobby that tends to involve a bit of isolation. Genealogists end up doing a lot of searching on the internet and plenty of research, and this often is a one person job. It can be nice to get out of the house and attend a genealogy class, workshop, or event every once in a while. Here are some that will be happening this week.

On April 16, 2012, the Charlevoix Public Library, which is located in Charlevoix, Michigan, will start a series of genealogy classes. The class will start at 6:30 in the evening, and will end at 7:45 at night. It is called “Traditional Genealogy Methods and Introductions to Internet Research”, and will be taught by Carol McWain Goodenough, who is a professional genealogist.

On April 18, 2012, the Spoon River College of Community Outreach, which is located in Canton, Illinois, will hold a class called “Searching and Obtaining Records”. It will begin at 5:30 in the evening and end at 8:30 at night. This class will teach you how to use a computer and the internet to search for records that are available. An instructor will provide assistance and answer your questions.

On April 18, the Morningside Branch Library, which is located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will hold a genealogy class called “Free Research Sites”. It will begin at 9:45 in the morning and will end at 11:45 in the morning. The class will be taught by Patti Kirk, who is a local historian and genealogist.

On April 20, 2012, the Blake Library, which is located in Stuart, Florida, will hold a meeting of the Martin County Genealogical Society. The public is encouraged to attend. Reba Shepard will be speaking on “Researching Your Lineage”.

On April 21, 2012, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library, which is located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, will hold a genealogy class called “Writing Your Family History”. It will begin at 10:30 in the morning. It will be presented by Tom Dempsey.

On April 21, 2012, the Bend Golf & Country Club, which is located in Bend, Oregon, will hold a meeting of the Bend Genealogical Society. This is their spring seminar, and the speaker will be Dick Eastman, the editor of Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter. It will begin at 9:00 in the morning, and end at 4:00 in the afternoon. It costs $80 to attend.

On April 21, 2012, the Lakewood Methodist Church, which is located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, will host a free genealogy workshop that will be given by the Arkansas Genealogical Society. The workshop will begin at 9:00 in the morning. It is called “Caught in the Middle: Bridging the Gap Between Fundamentals and Technology”.
