Upholding Our Country

In the United States it is time to celebrate the Fourth of July. This is a wonderful holiday when we celebrate the founding of our nation. I am particularly grateful for the religious freedom that has been given to us by our founding fathers and the early settlers of the United States. This freedom opened the doors so that the church could be restored on the earth today. In many ways this country has provided wonderful blessings to all its citizens.

Many people think of the church as primarily as an American church, since it was founded in the United States. It is important to realize that the church has grown worldwide, and the members outside of the United States exceed the number inside the United States. No matter what country we are in we are encouraged to uphold the laws of the land. Article of Faith 1:12 states: “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.”

As a member of the church, it does not matter what country you live in. You have the privilege to receive all the blessings available to you through the gospel. It is also important to realize the importance of upholding and honoring the laws in your own country. As members of the church we should be setting an example when it comes to upholding and living the law.

I personally am very grateful to live in the United States. I feel blessed at all the opportunities that my family and I have since we live here. I am grateful for all those who have and are sacrificing to uphold the freedoms that we currently receive. Over the next week I plan on spending time focusing on these blessings with my children. I am grateful for the many freedoms that we have in this country. I want my children to realize how much they are blessed as well. No matter what country you live in, you can do the same. It is important to teach our children about their heritage and the blessings it gives them.
