This past weekend I had the great opportunity to attend the Creating Keepsakes Convention here in Arizona. This has been an annual tradition for me for the past six years. I was able to enjoy time with friends while attending some fun classes and browsing around the vendor faire.
One of the classes I attended was a layout sketches class taught by Becky Higgins. She was such a down to earth, friendly person who is well known for her layout sketches. We worked on two layouts, using two of her sketches as starting points.
Here is a picture of one of the sketches we were given.
This is a great sketch for including up to 12 photos on the two pages. I love how many sketches give us a great base for organizing many photos onto one layout.
Today I decided to use this sketch to create a layout about my daughters and their relationship as sisters.
I set the pictures out in the layout suggested by the sketch, but then I decided that two of the pictures couldn’t be cropped, so I started making some adjustments. This is how the layout turned out.
It is so interesting to me to discover the different ways our creations change from what we first planned to the end result. You can using a sketch exactly as drawn, or better yet, change the sketch to make it your own. I love the creative process.
For a fun, playful touch to the layout, I decided to journal around the outside of the photos to create a frame. This is something new to try if you don’t have a lot of journaling and want to incorporate the journaling in a new way onto your layout.
