Userful Websites: What do You Digg?

If you haven’t guessed yet from reading my blogs…I am a technology dork. I worked in a Best Buy through college and while there developed a severe addiction all the new gadgets and electronic gizmos. My college degree is in broadcasting, and I currently work at a television news station, so I have a healthy obsession with the news as well. One site that is good for keeping up with all of those things is digg.com.

Digg isn’t really content site, you won’t find articles there written by journalists or staff writers, only links posted by users. The site is completely user driven, users post links to articles they have found on the web along with a brief description. Other users will vote on the content, the articles with the most votes being promoted to the sites front page.

The general effect of voting on articles is that the best and most interesting article are the ones you first stumble upon, where as the articles that are less interesting get booted to the bottom of the list.

Digg is divided up into seven different sections: Technology, Science, World & Business, Sports, Videos, Entertainment, and Gaming. Each different section has several different subsections so you can focus in on the exact type of articles you want to read or you can just head for the website or subsection homepage to get a smattering of everything.

One thing I like about digg is that it is run my extremely intelligent users who post articles from tons of sources I’ve never heard of. Through searching through the site I have found out about tons of new products that haven’t even been announced on manufactures websites much less hit store shelves. I write a lot of tech based articles myself, so its also a good place to go and promote my writing and pull in an audience that might not have otherwise stumbled upon my article.

Check it out..I bet you’ll “Digg it!”
