A firm believer in using what you have before purchasing something new which serves the same purpose, I utilize that same technique at Christmas time. Decorating my home for the holidays is loads of fun, especially when I don’t have to spend a lot to do it!
You would be amazed at what you have in your home, and outside of your home that can serve to host decorations or serve as the decoration itself. Using creativity, low cost supplies and the things you already own, you can decorate your house in style!
Little Red Wagon
Have you got a child’s wagon lying around? Plastic? Metal? Wood? Doesn’t matter. Using clear lights wrap the wagon. For an outdoor decoration fill with evergreen branches and berries, pine cones and tie red outdoor ribbon around various branches. For an indoor decoration wrap various sized boxes in decorative wrapping paper and place inside the wagon. Plug in and enjoy!
Window Box Wonderland
Many people have window boxes already on their windows, or you might have one that you can attach. Fill with evergreens, holly branches and pine cones. Attach a big red bow to the front of the box and you’ve just created a beautiful decoration for the front of your home. This can work with flower pots, urns and other charming garden decorations as well.
Too Cold To Swim?
For whatever reason we still have a baby pool in our garage. I’m not sure why we haven’t gotten rid of it, but I’m thankful we haven’t. And it helps that the pool is a sturdy Little Tikes pool and is the color green. Blends nicely into the yard or in snow, is at least a Christmas color. Fill a baby pool with greenery, berries, pine cones, branches, small evergreen trees, poinsettias, or whatever. You can drape clear lights around the rim of the pool. It’s actually quite striking when lit at night!
