Ut oh – Is it already Friday? How is the shopping going?

Wow, is it really Friday? We’ve got just 16 shopping days left till Christmas and retailers are pulling out the big guns to get you into the store and shopping. Be sure to check out their fitness equipment sales, you can often times find good equipment as much as half off around the holidays, but before you go out and buy a treadmill for your spouse or an elliptical machine for your sibling – make sure it’s something they want.

There’s nothing that screams ouch like giving fitness equipment to someone who doesn’t want to highlight their own weight issues and unfortunately, all the best intentions in the world can’t keep it from potentially hurting their feelings. I know one guy who knew his wife really wanted to get back into shape after the birth of their second child so he asked her if she would like a personal trainer for Christmas – she did like the idea – so he shopped around found a good deal at a fitness club and signed her up. As a bonus he got a great discount on a block of 12 personal training sessions that set her up for the first three months of working out.

Giving the Gift of Fitness

Giving the gift of fitness is a wonderful idea and for spouses, it can be increased if you plan to do it with your spouse. For example, if your spouse has always wanted to get into biking regularly, buying a set of his and her bikes so that you can join him or her on the bike trails is not only a great fitness gift, it’s a gift from the heart because you are promising them your company along the way.

There are so many ideas and options out there from signing up for ballroom dancing lessons for the two of you to picking up the perfect fitness tapes or giving them a Netflix membership so they can get all the fitness dvds they want along with access to other DVDs from television series or movies.

Gift giving doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. It just has to come for the heart and sometimes that means giving gifts that help make your heart healthier – but remember, don’t surprise your spouse with a fitness gift that might embarrass them if they don’t want it and you can still make fitness a part of your Christmas and New Year’s gifts and resolutions.

Have you ever received a great fitness gift for Christmas?
