Vacation Means a Break from Fitness

Most of us who take a vacation during the summer don’t worry about keeping up with our fitness routines. Yes, I know…there are some die-hard fitness buffs out there that won’t let a vacation stop them from exercising. There is nothing wrong with that but think about the point of a vacation.

A vacation is a time to break away from normal. Even taking a break from exercise can actually be a good thing. And it is highly unlikely you will gain all sorts of weight during this time, unless you completely overindulge yourself.

It is an opportunity to not think about work, pressures at home, your to-do-lists, and yes, even your weight. It is a time to unwind and de-clutter your brain of everything you are trying to leave behind.

During your vacation you may find yourself worrying about what you should eat. There is nothing wrong with making healthy choices, however, don’t become enslaved to them. Allow yourself the opportunity to splurge on some things you might not otherwise have. If you have been keeping up a fairly consistent workout routine, like I said, you won’t likely gain a ton of weight.

So yes, enjoy some sweets and scrumptious desserts. Go ahead and take a second helping but all of this is done in moderation. I wouldn’t eat this way during every meal of your vacation.

Even if you do gain a couple of extra pounds, it might be worth the opportunity to unwind and relax. You can always work them off afterwards. It’s a lot different than putting on an extra 10 pounds.

So while you are on your vacation, allow yourself to enjoy time off from fitness. You don’t have to go hog wild but you can still allow for simple pleasures.

What about you…do you take a break from fitness while you are on vacation?
