Visiting Teaching Message: Jesus Christ Taught the Purpose of Life on Earth

Our visiting teaching message for the month of January is entitled, “Jesus Christ Taught the Purpose of Life on Earth.” Through the quotes of President Spencer W. Kimball, President Ezra Taft Benson, and Julie B. Beck, we learn more about this.

From Spencer W. Kimball, we learn that man was sent to earth to experience all that it meant to be mortal, which is the intermediate step between premortal life and immortality. Because Adam and Eve partook of the fruit in the Garden of Eden, we all became subject to spiritual and mortal death. When Christ came and atoned for our sins, He made it possible for us to overcome spiritual death and for us to be resurrected from mortal death. He was chosen before the world was created to fulfill this task.

Ezra Taft Benson teaches us that Adam and Eve were promised a savior to redeem them from their transgression so they could return to Heavenly Father’s presence. They were given the plan of salvation and they were commanded to teach those things to their children. They were also baptized, received the Holy Ghost, and taught the things of the temple.

Julie B. Beck tells us that as daughters of God, we were among those noble and great ones spoken of who were at the creation of the world. We wanted to work alongside righteous men to accomplish our eternal goals, working in partnership as neither of us could succeed without the other. Our roles as women are eternal, neither beginning in this life nor ending in this life. As we treasure our motherhood here on this earth, we will also treasure it in the world to come. Motherhood is our divine, eternal mission. For those women who will not become mothers in this life, by developing a nurturing heart, they are laying up a foundation for great things to come.
