VPI Puppies to Appear in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl Eight

puppy bowl VPI is a company that sells pet insurance. This year, three of their VPI insured puppies are going to appear in Animal Planet’s eight annual Puppy Bowl. It will take place on “SuperBowl Sunday”. Those of you who don’t have an interest in football will at least have the Puppy Bowl to look forward to.

VPI, or Veterinary Pet Insurance, is the number one veterinarian-recommended pet insurance company. It is a member of the Nationwide Insurance family of companies. VPI has insured more than 485,000 pets nationwide.

This is the pet insurance company that does the Hambone Award. To be nominated for the award, a pet must be insured by VPI. It also must have done something incredibly risky and unexpected, (like eat a beehive), and have survived the experience. The Hambone Award was named after a situation where a dog managed to get shut into a refrigerator, where it proceeded to eat an entire ham before its family opened the refrigerator door. The award definitely emphasizes the need for pet insurance.

Animal Planet has been doing an annual event called the Puppy Bowl. The event takes place on SuperBowl Sunday. Puppy Bowl places a bunch of puppies onto a small football field, in a stadium that undoubtedly sits on an Animal Planet set somewhere.

As far as I can tell, the basic idea here is that a bunch of cute, adorable, puppies are placed on the football field, along with several footballs of different sizes, and some scattered dog toys. It is presented in the format that resembles the Super Bowl, but, is obviously a fun, goofy, adaptation of it. In other words, it is a great excuse to watch a bunch of puppies playing around with each other.

This year, on Sunday, February 5, 2012, the Eight Annual Puppy Bowl will take place. There will be three puppies participating that are insured by VPI.

Their names are Pinky, Potsie, and Marion. Each puppy is a terrier-mix, and the three of them are siblings. The puppies came from a liter of seven that was rescued by a New York based non-profit group called Tails of Love Animal Rescue. John and Cathy Kurczeski, who live in New Jersey, adopted the three puppies. It is through the Tails of Love organization that Pinky, Potsie, and Marion got invited to participate in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl Eight.

If watching a bunch of adorable puppies, playing on a mini football field isn’t enough for you, there’s more! There will be a group of pigs acting as cheerleaders for the event, two hamsters who will be reporting from a “blimp”, and even a cockatiel who will live tweet the event on Twitter!
