According to a poll that was commissioned in Great Britain by the Arts Award, Walt Disney is considered the most respected artist among those polled between the ages of 18 and 25. The Arts Award is a national qualification for young people ages 11 to 25 recognizing them as artists and arts leaders. The award is actually a learning program that helps develop and assess arts-related skills.
The poll found that young people value Walt Disney over Leonardo d’Vinci as artists that most inspire them. Jane Austen was the only author to even make the top ten in that list and other artists that were acknowledged included Bob Dylan and Will Smith.
One thousand 11-25 year olds have received this accreditation and the 1,000th award will be given to a writer and performance artist. Walt Disney’s influence is unarguably felt in many aspects of our lives.
Even after his death, Walt’s legacy continues to gift us with innovations, art and music. He combined all of the above in his early studio work and in the establishment of his own studios. You see the creativity in his engineering and in his applications.
The beauty of art is that it can take many forms from the written word to the cartoon picture to pencil sketches and brilliant oil paintings. Modern art includes graphic design, computer generated animation and so much more. It’s easy to see why youths find Walt Disney an inspiration – he’s been inspiring the young for over 60 years now and here’s to 60 more years.
