Way to Ruin Easter

Nothing ruins Easter like:

*The Easter Bunny delivering a basket full of carrots instead of chocolate

*Rain cancelling your annual Easter egg hunt

*Rover devouring all the Easter candy

*A bunch of politically correct extremists forcing kids to call Easter eggs “Spring Spheres”

Last year I learned that Jesus was crucified so that procrastinating parents could elbow you in the shoulder in order to get the last package of electric blue Peeps. This year the Easter lessons keep coming. Only this time P.C. zealots are the ones doling out the crazy, not rude shoppers.

The same people who prefer that we refer to Christmas as “a non-sectarian gift-buying winter solstice” are determined that we neuter Easter as well.

It’s a lesson a sophomore at a private high school in Seattle learned the hard way earlier this month.

According to KIRO, the 16-year-old student got a taste of what happens when political correctness runs amuck during her stint as a volunteer in a third grade class.

The teen, named Jessica, reportedly had a wonderful experience working with the public school kids as part of a week-long community service project and wanted to leave on a happy note. Her plan was to fill a bunch of plastic Easter eggs with jelly beans and other candy, but she was unsure how the third grade teacher would feel about it. Apparently, Seattle public schools have “abstract behavior rules” which they enforce quite stringently.

“I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay,” Jessica told KIRO. “She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat ‘spring spheres.’ I couldn’t call them Easter eggs.”

Rather than fight the powers that be Jessica rolled with the spring sphere rule. Only the kids weren’t buying it.

“When I took the eggs of the bag, the teacher said, ‘Oh look, spring spheres’ and all the kids were like ‘Wow, Easter eggs.’ So they knew,” Jessica told reporters.

Spring spheres? Seriously?

So much for remembering the reason for the season.
