Websites for Writers: Deborah Ng’s Job Leads

There are certain websites I visit regularly. I have my favorites bookmarked, and go down the list every morning checking out all the latest. As a writer still trying to build up a client list, I religiously visit one site each day. If you’re a writer, and haven’t heard of Deborah Ng, now is the time.

As a regular contributor to Writer’s Row and LoveToKnow, and author of blog “Finding the Right Words,” Deb (as we affectionately call her) knows what it takes to be successful in a writing career. As a frequent poster on the “WAHMs Who Write” forum, she also sees some of the hassles new writers put themselves through in order to get their career started. These include working for extraordinary low pay, taking chances on clients who may not pay, and dealing with editors who are more slave drivers than anything.

Of most concern to those in the writing field, especially Deb, is the tendency for new writers to take low paying jobs because they feel they have to. There are higher paying markets out there, but one does need to do a little searching for them. That’s where Deb comes in. Waking up at 4 a.m., she begins her day spending up to several hours trolling job boards and other resources, putting together the leads for all writers to see.

The result of all this hard work and effort is Freelance Writing Jobs, Deb’s blog. Supported only by donations and advertising revenue, Deb works hard and receives very little in return, all for the sake of providing quality leads for writers needing work. Due to the time that would be involved, leads are not researched, although if a particular lead seems “fishy,” she will note this on her blog. In addition, readers can leave remarks in the comments section so other readers have a heads-up on any questionable responses from the job posters.

If you are a writer, or are hoping to start a career in freelance writing, I highly encourage you to check out Deb’s job leads. There is a mixture of both big and smaller markets, low and high paying jobs. In addition, right now you can win a FREE coffee mug by entering the FWJ Procrastination Content – tell Deb your favorite way to procrastinate and you’re in!

Good luck job hunting!
