Wednesday Widgets: The Weather Channel

I remember when the weather channel first hit the television airways. It was a real novelty to watch. Imagine you could find out the weather anytime of day or night. No more flipping through channels as you wait for the end of the news broadcast to find out the local weather only to realize that you just missed it because you got caught up in a rerun of Happy Days. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

And now with the Weather Channel Mac Widget, you don’t even have to turn on the television at all. The weather comes straight to your little old desktop.

This widget is one of the more handsome ones I have seen. The slick-looking black frame is attractive but no nonsense, and the graphics are brights and clear. After downloading and auto installing, you simply put in your city and state or zip code. From there, the widget does all of the work. You can quickly see today’s current conditions, along with weather predictions for the immediate future. That is, for the next 36 hours.

You can also choose to view your weather hourly.

Radar tracking is always available, at the click of a tab, and an extended ten-day forecast request will lead you straight to the Weather Channel website. It really does provide all of the information you need right on your dashboard. This widget even notifies you if there are severe weather conditions in effect for your area.

It is nice to know that I will be able to keep on top of dangerous conditions, so I can warn my husband for his commute home and be aware of possible early dismissals from my son’s school. And there is just something that is kind of cool about tracking the weather.

Here are the download details.
