What About all Those Dreams?

I hope you’re married to your dream guy or gal, but the dreams I’m referencing here are those that you and your spouse had early in your relationship. Maybe you dreamed of buying a home together or having children or starting a business.

Do you remember all the dreams you shared? I have to stop and think about it sometimes, because so much has happened in our lives since those days. I do remember quite a few of the things we hoped for and there are several of those dreams that never materialized. That may be true for many couples since life has a way of changing course so quickly.

My point is that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. There is still time to work towards your dreams and you may find that your dreams have also changed over time. The world is a much different place when you get older or once you’ve added children to your family. The things you longed for way back when might not hold as much, if any, interest for you today.

My husband and I no longer plan to buy that motorcycle we always talked about getting so we could take long road trips. It would be pretty tough to pull off with four children! Frankly, it sounded thrilling at the time, but I’m not sad that it is no longer on the list (or anywhere near the list for that matter).

We did buy a home and we have some land, so we can cross that off the list. We have four beautiful healthy children who are dreams come true. We have a lot to be thankful for and while many of our dreams are now laid aside or have changed, there are some things we still hope to accomplish together as well. We still have time. We’re not feeling like life has passed us by, just that maybe it has taken a few detours, and for the most part they’ve turned out well.
