What Are the Best Freecycle Finds?

Wherever I go, especially yard sales, I tell people about Freecycle. For example, when we had out lucky dining room set find last weekend, I told the owners who were moving to consider joining freecycle.

Over the years I’ve been able to bless others with things in our home that we no longer needed, wanted or loved. And in return, we have been blessed with things that we wanted and needed from others.

It is interesting to see all of the different offers and wants on my local freecycle board. Some people ask for expensive items, such as laptops and cars (and occasionally get them), while others look for small items (such as board game pieces for crafts). But what are some of the best Freecycle finds? Things that are useful or wanted of course. But in general, here are some of the best things that we have either received or have seen offered on Freecyle, so look out for them.

Large exercise equipment

We were blessed with an elliptical, and I often see all sorts of exercise machines and equipment available. This is probably due to the fact that many people purchase such equipment and then don’t use it. Plus, the equipment can be heavy, so it is easier to give it away and have someone pick it up than to haul it to the charity or pay to have it picked up by sanitation. These machines can cost $200-$2000 new.

Furniture

People redecorate, downsize or upgrade, so furniture is usually available on Freecycle for the taking. And again, it is usually large or heavy. Make sure that you know the condition of the piece before you commit to claiming it. In general, I would probably stay away from upholstered pieces and stick with wood, metal or plastic furniture.

Kids stuff

There are always wonderful toys and clothing for kids on Freecycle, since kids tend to outgrow many things. I’ve also seen a lot of room decor as well, since princesses give way to preteens. We have been blessed with expensive electronic games, rescue heros, Legos, clothing and more. And to keep karma going, we release most of it back when we are done. Make sure you check recalls for any baby equipment, such as cribs, high chairs and toys.
