Is the price of milk going up? Check out this information from the government that offers milk prices across the country for the month of April, 2007.
With three kids (two of which drink large amounts of milk) I pay close attention to milk prices. It seems that they are always going up. While that isn’t always the case, it is nice to have real information on what milk is costing me from month to month.
These prices reflect the most popular brands of whole milk by the gallon. Samples prices are taken twice a month to get an average price.
It looks like the price of milk did indeed go up from March to April in most states, although only by a few cents. Baltimore, MD went from a low of $3.16 per gallon of whole milk in March to a whopping $3.42. Other states went down in price, such as Cleveland, OH. Their milk prices went from $3.32 to $3.19. Dallas, TX is the big winner. Their milk is the least expensive in the country (for the sample cities) at $2.66 from a previous $3.21.
I wasn’t so lucky, as my nearby city of Philadelphia, PA saw prices rise an additional ten cents a gallon to $3.48! I think I may look into buying milk direct from the Amish, soon.
New Orleans, LA has the current highest milk prices, at $4.02 a gallon.
Overall, on average for the country, a gallon of whole milk only went up by one penny in the last month.
