What Does Your DVD or TV Viewing Reflect about Your Marriage?

What does your DVD or TV viewing reflect about your marriage? Does it all tend to be one sided, watching what one person wants or is it a balance?

In one home I know they have two TVS She watches what she wants in one room whole he watched what he wants in another. In another he watches TV one room. She reads a book in the bedroom. That’s something that rarely if ever happens in our house, mainly because we enjoy being together

Recently I watched Brothers and Sisters while Mick read a book, as he’s less enamored of the show recently. But he was still reading in the same room in the chair next to me. And sometimes I have done this too if Mick has been watching a show I’m not interested in

Mostly we tend to watch things that both of are happy to watch. Because its school vacation here and a lot of activities we are involved in are in recess, we have been watching a few more DVDs recently. Last night it was The Jane Austen Book Club which we saw at the movies when t first came out and both enjoyed. And yes, Mick has read Jane Austen. We have Prides and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion and he’s read all three, a couple more than once.

Prier to that over a number of nights we had watched the three DVDs of Lord of the Rings. Mick is a huge fan of Tolkien and the book. This was followed by Marley and Me. It’s a balance as marriage should always be of give and take, catering for his likes and my likes.

In another married couple I know they recently watched Rain Man which one of the couple had never seen and Mission Impossible- again a blending of two different kinds of movies and balance between his taste and hers.

Marriage is all about keeping the balance – enjoying being together and making sure it is something that keeps both people happy. Or sometimes it may require a compromise. The principle is the same whether it is in little things like watching TV or choosing a DVD or in the bigger issues in marriage.
