What is a Brag Book?

A brag book is the wallet you unfold or the little photo album you carry around in your purse that plays host to a dozen or more of your favorite baby pictures. Brag books are popular with grandparents and parents alike, but the great thing about a brag book is that it can be as fun or complicated or as simple as you like.

Scrap Booking the Brag Book

In this case, I got the following idea from my mother. She loves to design picture frames that match the subject of the picture. In fact, she used one of my daughter’s baby Easter pictures as the design basis for an egg frame that she then painted to match the Easter eggs in the photograph.

So if you want to dress up your brag book, you can turn it into a book that lets you tell a story, whether you frame each picture in a specific border or add stickers, thought balloons or other tricks of the scrap booking trade. The idea is to give you the best presentation possible to show off your little one.

My husband does another variation on the brag book for his home and work computers. He literally has hundreds of images that play out in a slide show screen saver. Interspersed within the images are scanned images of artwork she has designed over the years. He actually has people swing by to look at his work computer just to see what images are playing.

Make the Brag Book Personal

Your brag book may also be more than just a collection of photos, it can be their hospital identification bracelet, their little baby cap, their first lock of hair and even the cards you received from friends and loved ones at the time your baby was born.

In my daughter’s baby brag book, I have letters that I have written to her interspersed among photographs, souvenirs and other bits of dram and floss that make up the memories we share. The great thing about baby pictures is you can do anything you want with the photos and it will only enhance the experience of looking at them.
