What Purchases Can I Make Without Actually Leaving My House?

I always swore I was not going to be one of those online/mail order divas—I was concerned that I would spend more money if I did things that way and did not want to give in to late night impulse shopping. I have found that single parenthood, however, has led me to trying to cut corners and save time as much as trying to save money. Now, I ask myself just what I can purchase and get—without having to make an extra trip!

I pre-select my library books via the world wide web instead of perusing the shelves; I’ve learned how to order food and basic items without paying too much in shipping; I purchase my postage online so that I don’t have to make a trip to the post office. Of course, I do still keep a very keen eye on my budget and bottom line and I am not about to purchase something just for convenience sake if I have to pay more or pay a big shipping rate—but if I can conceivably get it without having to make a trip myself—I will. I’m a pretty typical single parent and I just don’t have all the time in the world to wander and search out bargains and deals. The convenience has to account for something.

I was talking with a new mom recently who told me about how she orders diapers, formula, and other items online and is actually saving money as well as time. I was impressed. I suppose I have come a long way from that woman who was so determined to not give into convenient online shopping—now I ask myself if I really have to leave the house and go in search—or if I can get it delivered directly to me?
