If you are pregnant, there’s a good chance that you are aware that one of the most popular pregnancy books out there has been turned into a movie. “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” has helped many women (and men) to understand what goes on during pregnancy. I have read the book, and have found it to be a great resource that I referred to often during both of my pregnancies.
When I heard that the book was headed for the big screen, I began to wonder how a movie about being pregnant would do in theaters. While I have not yet seen it, plenty of people out there have. According to movie review web site RottenTomatoes.com, about half of the people who have seen the movie liked it and half did not.
With a star – studded cast that includes Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock, Dennis Quaid, and Jennifer Lopez as well as the reputation of Heidi Murkoff’s best – selling book, the ingredients for a good movie are there. Unfortunately, many viewers felt that the plot lines were much too contrived to be entertaining. There are many reviews that point to clichés and tired romantic comedy themes, too.
If you are pregnant during the summer, you probably do want to go out to see movies regularly because it is a great way to keep cool. Air conditioned theaters are a relaxing place to be when it is ninety plus degrees outside. According to people who have seen the “What to Expect” movie, though, unless you are looking for a movie that is a little light on the laughs you may want to opt for another film. Of course, when you are pregnant it may be helpful if the movie that you are watching does not make you laugh too hard. I am not sure whether that topic is covered in the movie, but if you are pregnant you may know just what I am talking about. When you’re pregnant, it is not a stretch to imagine a scenario in which you laugh so hard that you pee your pants. Not that I would know anything about that.
