What To Expect With Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest

On July 2, the second installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy will be released in the United States. As a fan of the first film, I can tell you that fans of the film are extremely anxious to see where this film takes the series flagship character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

For those of you who have seen the first film, you’re well aware of the fact that the film’s villainous pirate captain, Barbossa, was taken out at the end of the film. So who’s the villain of this installment? Here for you, is a rundown of the new characters and a few old ones you will see in the new film.

Beware! There be spoilers.

1. The next two installments will feature a new, terrifying villain: Davy Jones (and I don’t mean the Monkee either), the keeper of the locker where dead pirates are sent to rest at the bottom of the ocean. Played by the brilliant Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Still Crazy), this character is as ruthless as his exterior. Featuring a tentacled beard and claw like hands, Davy Jones has come to claim Jack Sparrow’s soul.

2. Almost all of the characters of the first film will return for the next two adventures including the two mischievous and dim-witted pirates, Pintel (Lee Arenberg) and Ragetti (Mackenzie Crook) and the honorable James Norrington (Jack Davenport).

3. Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) return as they ready for their wedding ceremony which will almost inevitably be postponed due to their longtime friend, Captain Jack Sparrow.

4. Get ready for more amped-up action in this installment. Not only will Jack Sparrow face a tribe of cannibalistic natives, there will also be a run in with a giant squid and the inhabitants of Davy Jones’ underworld lair.

I predict this film will be a huge box office hit, but I’m sure that fans and filmgoers alike will wonder if it can live up to the success of the first one. As a longtime fan of the original ride and Johnny Depp, I certainly hope so.

The third installment of the film will open in 2007, so be prepared to be left hanging in July. The second film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest will open in the U.S. on July 2. In the meantime, you can visit the film’s official site and view the trailer online.
