What to See at Story@Home 2012 on Saturday

taking notes This weekend, the very first Story@Home conference will be held. It is going to take place March 9 and March 10, 2012, at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be plenty to do and see! In fact, there will be more things going than you can hope to see all of. Here are some details about what will be happening on Saturday, March 10, 2012.

On Friday, there will be a series of presentations going on, all day, at Story@Home 2012. It appears that you will be able to attend them all, because they will be happening one right after the other, and in the same location.

On Saturday, things change. Saturday will be filled with a bunch of classes. There will be six different sessions of classes, with three of them happening at the exact same time. It is physically impossible for you to attend all three of them at once, so you are going to have to make some touch choices.

If you will be attending the event, I suggest that you read over the full list of classes that are being offered. For the purposes of this blog, I will point out one class within each block of time that seemed the most interesting to me. You choices may vary.

The first block of three classes will start at 8:30 in the morning. “Blog Your Passion and Grow Your Blog” will be presented by Leigh Anne Wilkes. She blogs at “Homebased Mom”. This class will show you how to find your niche and blog your passion.

At 9:45 in the morning, there will be a class called “Newbie Guide to Family History”. It will be presented by Valerie Elkins, a genealogist who has 25 years of experience. She will teach you how to get started working on your family history, with some easy steps that you can start taking today.

At 11:00, I would want to check out the “Family History On-The-Go” class. It will be presented by Tim Cross. This class will show you all of the amazing family history apps that are available for Androids, iPhones and other mobile devices. It also teaches you how to include kids and other family members with these apps.

At 1:00, I would check out the class called “Sharing Your Story Through Film and Photos”. It will be presented by Jeff Parkin, who has degrees in Film & Television production, and Ed Thompson, who served as Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Utah. They will show you how to take your 8mm tapes, boxes of photos, and DVDs and combine them into a meaningful way.

At 2:15, “Jump Into the Stream – Social Media and Your Blog” will be presented by Michael Reynolds. He is the President/CEO of SpinWeb. He will teach you what social media is, and how to use it. He will show you what Facebook and Twitter can do for you and your blog.

At 3:30, there will be a class called “When Google Fails You”. It will be presented by Steve Anderson. He guides the international and online marketing efforts for FamilySearch. He will teach you what to do when Google doesn’t give you the results you were seeking.
