What’s in a Day?

Some days are so crowded we can wish we had more hours in a day. But wishing won’t achieve anything. The truth is each of us has the same amount – 24 hours. Nor more and no less. Nothing we wish for or do will change that. Our days are usually made up of work, either paid or unpaid, sleep, household chores, shopping and family tasks, and then we need time for building and maintaining relationships, hobbies, social life and just plain relaxing.

Add to all these things that take up our time, the unexpected. That visit to the Drs you hadn’t planned for, that child that needs attention, that person in your neighborhood who needs help, the unexpected visitor etc. And it’s not hard to see how it becomes increasingly hard to juggle all the activities. Like an inexperienced juggler we often seem to drop one and that throws our while routine out.

But as we talked about the other day- some things really matter. So, how do we make time for those things that matter? What things do you want your life to be about? As our minister reminded us on Sunday our lives need some TLC. No, it doesn’t stand for tender, loving care.

T is for Transformation. I don’t know about you, but one of the things I want in my life is change- transformation. I want to see a change in my behavior. I want to see sins and wrong habits disappear from my life. I want to see godliness and godly qualities increase. I don’t only want to be shooting up desperate arrow prayers to God and praying while I’m trying to do something else. I want quality time with God.

I want to give God the best of my day. For me that is in the morning. It is when I can spend I can spend time alone with the lord, in prayer and reading His word. My husband is usually in another room doing the same thing. I want a life that is purposeful. For that to happen I need to make a deliberate and conscious effort to spend that time with God alone. This is what Jesus did.

Jesus rose early in the morning while it was still dark and spent that time alone with His Heavenly Father in prayer, Mark 1:35. Before He chose His disciples, Jesus went off alone and spent the whole night in prayer, Luke 6:12-13. Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, Matthew 26:39,42,44. If Jesus saw how important it was to pray and spend time in His Father’s presence, how much more do you and I need to pray to our Heavenly Father for strength for each day?

Join me again tomorrow and the next day as we look at what the other letters in TLC stand for and how we can bring about that transformation of our lives.
