What’s the Big Deal?

Jennifer Aniston had lunch with musician John Mayer in Miami last week.

Whoo-hoo. What’s the big deal?

Frankly, I don’t think it’s worth mentioning, but for some reason news of this alleged “intimate” luncheon is making headlines the world over.

For those of you who haven’t opened a newspaper or surfed the Internet this weekend, apparently the former “Friends” star had a late private lunch with Mayer at a trendy Miami eatery—-which, by the way, the couple reportedly had opened just for them—Friday afternoon, before reuniting again for a lengthy dinner later that night.

According to news reports, Aniston and Mayer asked the general manager of Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in the Miami Design District, to open the restaurant at 3:30 p.m. so they could dine privately for about 90 minutes.

So they shared a meal in Miami. Aniston is in town shooting the movie “Marley & Me” with Owen Wilson and goodness knows other than blogging about his failed romances Mayer doesn’t have much on his plate.

Yet for some reason their “date” saturated the weekend tabloids. One even revealed that Aniston ordered a chopped chicken salad, while Mayer had a Serrano ham sandwich, which the actress reportedly took a bite of because it “looked so good.” The restaurant’s general manager even detailed what the handsome duo had for dessert–a chocolate-and-peanut-butter layered cake–that they shared.

Restaurant staff also spilled the beans about what the couple was doing while waiting for their meals to be prepared. According to a member of the wait staff, Aniston and Mayer sat across from each other in a booth, “their heads were close together, and they were engaged in a private conversation.”

GASP!

I suppose the media wouldn’t have made such a big deal about the meal if the couple hadn’t been seen sharing dinner together a few hours later. Thirty-nine-year-old Aniston and 30-year-old Mayer were snapped at Casa Tua on South Beach late Friday night.

Though the money shot came at around 1 a.m. Saturday when Mayer placed his arm around the former Mrs. Brad Pitt as they left the eatery. They were also photographed holding hands as they approached her hotel.

So they shared a couple of meals together. Does anyone really care… besides a few newspaper editors?
