When is the Last Time You Went out Together?

Has it been a while since you and your spouse had a chance to get out together? We just can’t quite seem to squeeze in that date night with all the other demands of life sometimes. It happens to every couple, but it is important to remedy the situation.

Even if it means simply getting away for an hour or so, to have dinner alone together or to go for a walk, we have to make time for each other and for our marriages.

My husband and I have the same problem. With demanding work schedules and four busy children, it’s hard to find the time or the money to have a date night even occasionally, much less regularly. I’ve devised a plan.

When I go to the store and pay for a purchase, I don’t count out the exact change. I give an extra dollar and let the change add up. I put it in a little coin bank on my vanity and save it up. When my husband works out of town, he comes home with lots of change from tolls. He throws a big pile of change on the kitchen table and the kids gather it up and put a little in their own banks and the rest in one big bank. They save the money for a year and then use it for extra spending money if we go on vacation or use it to make a large purchase. This year, they bought a trampoline.

Saving Change for Date Night

Anyway, I told them that Mom now also gets to pull a little change from the pile for my bank. They laughed at first, but now it’s part of the routine. I also stick a dollar or two in my bank every so often, and I’ve even caught my husband cleaning out his pockets and putting change into my bank.

Soon, we’ll have saved enough to enjoy an evening out. Now, if we can just find a way to “save up” some time!
