Children are noisy. We try to teach our children the difference between outside and inside voice. The two voices is a difficult concept for the toddler. The toddler’s normal tone of voice is forever at a loud whine. When I talk to other parents of three-year-olds I find that whining loudly is pretty standard for toddlers.
We have a lot of toys that make noise. I think the majority of toys for small children make noise and flash lights. Jessie has outgrown the phase of having mostly noise making toys and her toys require her to use her imagination. Jessie loves all her baby dolls and her books. She loves to build with blocks and tells us that she’s building a castle.
I have introduced Jessie to water paint. There are not a lot of craft and art activities that we can let Jess do because she forgets herself and ends up coloring all over every surface except the one where she’s supposed to color. When we were last at Target we came across a water paint book. Water paints was a favorite activity of mine when I was little. The paint is a part of the page. All Jessie needs is a cup of water to dip her brush in to paint the page and the colors come to life. There is no mess. She’s really enjoying painting and asks to do it often.
So now I’m wondering why in the world I bought the toddler a Dora The Explorer microphone. The toy is adorable and Jessie loves playing with it. The problem is that it’s so loud and I haven’t figured out how to turn the volume down. Did I lose my mind when I bought this toy? I almost bought it for Jessie to give to a friend too.
