If I really stopped and thought about this question, it just might depress me. It sometimes seems like no one is looking at my scrapbooking. My husband humors me because I show him every layout I finish pretty much in a hopeless attempt to find someone that appreciates my work. My four-year-old has even become slightly interested in looking at my layouts, but mainly because she wants to steal those scissors away from me and cut some paper. But, it is really meaningful to have other people that scrapbook appreciate your work isn’t it? When I complete an entire album, I put it up on my shelf, and it is rarely touched after that.
Recently, I was on a forum for a scrapbooking website, and saw someone that was saying that no one really looked at her layouts and she would really love comments. Here’s a secret, which is probably not a secret at all, but every scrapper would LOVE for you to utter those words, “Can I look at your album?” I don’t know if it is just me that needs the praise and love, but the thing is, I love to sit down with other people and look at my album. It gives me some satisfaction to know that I put all those hours in to create something beautiful to look at. But, the truth is, I don’t have many friends that scrapbook, so they never ask to look at my albums. Some people may not even know that I scrapbook at all.
If you’d like more people to look at your albums try these ideas:
*Put one out on your coffee table when you know someone is coming over.
*Host a crop, but tell everyone invited to bring an album they’ve completed for sharing. Or, you could have a party just for sharing albums!
*Create a blog, or other website to post your layouts on. Let your friends and family know that you’d love for them to look at your work.
*Post your layouts on Facebook for your friends to see.
*Create a Portfolio of some of your favorite layouts and invite others to look at it.
*Tell others what you need! Sometimes it may feel like you’re being desperate, but you won’t get what you want if you don’t ask for it! A polite way to ask is to simply say, “Would you like to look at my scrapbook?” or, “I would love for you to look at my scrapbooking pages”
*Invite a non-scrapping friend over to teach them how to scrapbook. You might just be able to create a friend that is as in love with scrapbooking as you are!
With all of these tips, the most important thing to remember is that YOU should pull those albums off the shelf once in a while and look at those albums. After all, you are creating them for yourself, so make sure you enjoy them from time to time.
