Sometimes, it is fun to think about whether we could possibly imagined doing the things that we now do every day. If someone had tried to tell me while I was in high school what I would be doing when I was thirty four years old I would not have believed them. It was the mid 1990s, and I thought that I would follow the typical trajectory of the middle class teen – go to college, get a job, and have a family.
However, I would not have had any idea that college would lead me to law school, or that I would choose to turn my back on the world of traditional work in favor of starting two home based businesses. I also could not have imagined that when my sons came along, I would be able to stay home with them because I work from home. I just thought that I would have to have someone else care for them like most other people did. Since I was in high school in the mid 1990s, I also could not have imagined that I would write blog entries on my smartphone while sitting in my car, with my two little guys napping in the back seat.
It is interesting how sometimes our lives turn out even better than we could have imagined. I had no idea that I would be able to find a creative way to balance work and motherhood, to have both the joy of family and the satisfaction of challenging myself through work at the same time. Even if you have never imagined that you could be a home based professional, you can become one. Advances in technology have made it possible for many types of work to be suitable for getting done at home (or on the go).
