Diddy. P Diddy. Puff. Puff Daddy. Puffy. I still don’t know what rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is calling himself these days, though I can think of a few names that might suit him (only with this being a family-friendly site I will refrain from making any of them public).
Look, I really don’t try to figure out what goes on in the minds of Hollywood’s rich and famous (in addition to not having the time to do so I simply don’t have the desire), but every once in a while a celebrity will make a public statement that forces me to pause and wonder what in the world is he or she thinking (or in most cases—-not thinking).
In the case of Combs (I’ll just use that moniker since I’m pretty sure it’s the one listed on his driver’s license) he has just revealed to the world that he “desperately” wants to get married.
Wonderful.
The mega-star has dated Hollywood hotties including Jennifer Lopez, R&B protégé Cassie, as well as actress Sienna Miller. Heck, he’s even been spotted dining with Cameron Diaz. However, currently the 38-year-old music mogul is unattached. Combs says he hasn’t had a serious girlfriend since his longtime love (and mother of two of his children) Kim Porter left him last year.
So Combs wants to get married, but hasn’t found the perfect mate yet—-fine. That’s not the part of his statement that got my attention. Rather, what made me choke on my morning OJ was the fact that Combs says while he has yet to find someone to walk down the aisle with he knows what aisle he wants to walk down.
It’s a very long aisle… smack in the middle of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
As in the landmark Roman Catholic Church located in the heart of Manhattan. Yes, the same structure that has been deemed the largest decorated gothic-style Catholic Cathedral in the United States and has been recognized throughout its history as a center of Catholic life.
Yup, that’s the church the single father of six children by four different women, including one-year-old twin daughters, says he wants to get married in.
If you are like me you are probably wondering if Combs is Catholic. I did some research and found out that while he attended the Roman Catholic Mount Saint Michael Academy in New York as a child it is unclear if Combs was ever baptized.
If not it might put a damper on his wedding plans. Unless Combs plans on becoming a Catholic (or if he is, completes the sacraments needed to marry in the Catholic Church) or at the very least marries a practicing Catholic with the intention of raising his future children as Catholics he might have a hard time securing St. Patrick’s Cathedral as his wedding venue.
The Cathedral is an awe-inspiring place that can seat more than 2,000 people (perfect for a “Diddy”-sized wedding) so I can see why Combs would want to exchange vows with the love of his life there. Only he might want to do some research on what it takes to actually make his dream wedding a reality prior to sending out the invitations because I don’t think any amount of his gigantic fortune will persuade a priest to break the rules for what will likely be a very public celebration.
