Wife Swap: Take A look At How Another Family Lives

Do you think your family runs perfectly and no one could do a better job than you running your family?

Do you think you do a great job as a parent, but your children don’t appreciate you?

Wife Swap is a show on ABC where for two weeks two different moms from two different families swap places and take a look at how someone else’s family operates.

The first week of the show the departing wife writes a manual for her replacement on how everything in the household works. Week one requires the wives have to adopt the lifestyle on the household they are moving into, and do everything just as they usually do.
The manual covers everything from how they raise their children to their housework and social responsibilities.

Week two of the show puts the visiting wife in charge of the household. In many cases this week is a week of huge changes for the family that are sometimes welcomed but often met with some difficulty.

At the end of the experience the two couples come together and talk abut the experience. Each wife talks about the positive things they’ve learned from the other family, as well as some suggestions they have for improvement for the other family’s future.

This is a very interesting show to watch. It’s interesting to see the impression an outsider will have of your family when forced to spend two weeks with them. In the episodes that I have watched I think that both families have walked away much better after the experience. Trading families allows them to appreciate their own family more and see opportunities for improvement in the way they operate their own home. Everyone leaves Wife Swap slightly changed.

You can get a lot out of just watching one episode of this show and seeing how differently some families operate. We may think all families work essentially the same way, but Wife Swap definitely proves that theory wrong.

Wife Swap currently airs on ABC in the US, and is broadcast on television stations all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
