Will You be Mistaken for Santa this Christmas?

Believe it or not Christmas is 92 days away! That is three months and 2 days to fit into that Christmas dress you have been dying to wear. Will you do it? I know this year I do not want to worry I’ll be mistaken for Mrs. Claus if I decide to wear red. This could be Christmas number 5 that I wanted to wear this one skirt in particular but can’t get my sugar plum bottom into it. I keep telling myself that I have an excuse seeing as how I have a knee injury that requires me to be sedentary for at least another four weeks. However, we all know that is just one more excuse in a long line of excuses. I for one am tired of getting fatter every year and not having the heart to make one more resolution on weight that I will not fulfill. Resolutions and promises about weight never work for me. Rarely does a half hearted resolution have a plan as an encore.

I challenge you to give yourself a Christmas gift this year. You know that dress, suit or skirt you have wanted to wear for years? Throw it away! That’s right, throw it away. Do not past disappointments haunt you and old clothes mock you one more second. They are not your judges nor are they setting your standards. You know those thoughts of waiting until the New Year for a resolution? Forget it! No resolutions regarding weight going into 2011. Free your mind from past mistakes and bad habits of making promises to yourself that never come to fruition. Just stop thinking about your weight. Think about the joys of the holiday.

No, I did not just give you permission to eat a neighborhood of gingerbread houses. Instead of thinking of weight which often leads to feelings of failure and shame, think of YOU. Make decisions based on what is best for your health. Go through the holidays without gaining 10 more pounds because you are better than that. You have respect for yourself and your health. Health is a gift and if you are in good health then keep it and if your health is not perfect then do not compromise it for one more second. Use your brain to guide you and not your stomach or past fears, feelings of failure, or regrets. This Christmas give yourself a healthy you. If that means you lost 5 pounds or 20 pounds by then hold your head of high. The best gift you can give yourself is healthy attitude and a healthy body. I’ll be checking up on you until we reach Christmas to see how your new attitude is going!
