Home based professionals keep odd hours. For many any chance they can get to catch up, innovate, or move ahead is treasured and used down to the second. I find myself thinking in terms of when I can get more work done. Until I worked from home I would never consider working as much as I do now. Working on your own business is inspiring and exhausting. Even holidays are up for grabs when it comes to the home based professional. What about you? Will you work this Thanksgiving?
This Thanksgiving I am hosting it at my house. I have been trying to get as much work as I can completed so I can take that day off. Yet, in the back of my mind I am thinking of ways I can check in or return an email or get ahead if I work from this time to that time. I want the feeling of being done and I want it to last for more than a day. However, working from home is a never ending story. It is like laundry. No matter how many loads you wash, fold and put away there will be more waiting for you. Yet, I constantly strive to “be done” in business and sadly in laundry. I just have to learn that some days are for rest. Some days are to be dedicated to family. After all, I decided to work from home to be with my family. I felt working from home I could retain the homeschooling lifestyle while still earning an income my family needed. If I lose sight of my family and their needs then working from home is in vain.
If you work from home and your business does not revolve around Thanksgiving then I implore you to take the day off. Spend time with your family and rejuvenate. Remind yourself why you work from home. Take a break and reflect on how thankful you are for having the opportunity to work and grow in your field.
